Start a new career through our Nurse Assistant Training Program.

The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg Nurse Assistant Training Program is a curriculum approved by the Department of Education to teach students basic knowledge and skills necessary to become a Nurse Assistant. This free program is designed to prepare you as a student to be eligible to take the state approved Nurse Aide Competency Examination. The exam must be successfully completed within 120 days after the last day of class.

You will learn:

• Role and function of a Nurse Assistant
• Basic nursing and personal care skills
• Restorative care
• Mental health and social service needs
• Care of cognitive impaired residents

You will participate in clinical instruction to complement the classroom instruction. You will be prepared for a rewarding and challenging future as a Nurse Assistant.

The training consists of 116 hours of instruction which include:

• 46.5 hours of classroom instruction
• 18 hours of lab work
• 51.5 hours of clinical experience

You will be given several exams on the material covered and 2 comprehensive tests. You must receive a score of at least 80% on all quizzes and exams. Assignments are given on a pass/fail basis. Performance levels are evaluated by your primary instructor and your program coordinator using the clinical skills checklist.

You must fulfill the following criteria:

• Minimum 18 years of age
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Receive a negative reading on a 2 step intradermal tuberculin skin test or negative chest x-ray
• Negative drug screen
• Acceptable PA State Criminal Record Check (and FBI background check if applicable)
• Acceptable physical evaluation
• Basic reading, writing and math skills necessary to perform the Nurse Assistant role
