Volunteer Transportation Program
The Volunteer Transportation Program is another transportation option for Somerset County residents coordinated with the Area Agency of Aging.
The program functions to transport Somerset County residents over the age of 60 to medical appointments/tests/treatments only, either in or out of county, if there are no other transportation options available. Residents must meet financial guidelines to use the Volunteer Transportation Program.
The coordinator will attempt to coordinate with other means of transportation, such as the Blind Center, VA van, county transportation vans, etc. in order to accommodate transportation and escorting needs. Volunteer transportation and escort will be used if other transportation is not available.
Volunteers use their own vehicles and are limited in their abilities to perform tasks such as lifting, transferring and providing personal care to clients. Transportation through volunteers may be cancelled due to inclement weather.
The coordinator arranges all rides, and clients are not provided telephone numbers for volunteers.
