More than $35,000 Raised for Charitable Care At ALSM’s 21st Annual ALSM Golf Outing

Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries (ALSM) held the 21st Annual, First Commonwealth Bank James V. Meadows Memorial Golf Outing at the Scotch Valley Country Club (SVCC) in Hollidaysburg on Monday, July 30th.  More than $35,000 was raised for ALSM’s benevolent care fund, exceeding last year’s outing. First Commonwealth Bank once again served as the “Premier” Sponsor of the outing.  This year’s golf event was very successful with over 120 registered golfers.

Despite the rainy conditions as the golfers arrived, they were welcomed with the opportunity to warm up their game with a $5,000 putting contest sponsored by Thompson’s Pharmacy followed by lunch donated from Sheetz. Golfers had the opportunity to compete on several skills holes to win prizes of golfer merchandise and $10,000 from S&T Bank for a hole-in-one.  Other skill events included longest drive, hit the green, and closest to the pin.  Upon completion of the course, Cura Hospitality treated golfers to a low country boil buffet consisting of crab legs, shrimp, sausage, chicken, corn and red potatoes topped off with ice cream sundae for dessert.   Patricia Savage, ALSM’s President/CEO, concluded the event with a brief awards ceremony by thanking all the golfers and sponsors.

Due to the rain this year’s outing was very competitive with several teams finishing with a tie for first place.  The results of the outing were as follows:  First Place:  The M&T Bank team consisting of Dan Magee, Steve Genter, Dan Driscoll, and Bob Bilger, The UPMC team consisting of Tim Balconi, Felix Mariani, Jim Kimble and Mike Seiler and the DeGol Organization team consisting of the David DeGol Sr., Davod DeGol Jr., Marty Finklestine and Tony Nastasi. The longest drive winners were Elizabeth Horner for women and Rick Knab for men.  Straightest Drive winners were Bud Hetrick and Penny Orr.

The more than $35,000 proceeds from the golf outing benefits ALSM’s program of benevolent care. Each year, ALSM provides more than $2 million in benevolent care to residents who have exhausted their financial resources.

Again, thank you to all of the golfers, sponsors and volunteers of this year’s event.  Because of the support, it is possible for ALSM to continue to serve our community.  The date for next year’s golf outing is Monday, July 29, 2019.  If you are interested in more information in next year’s outing or other ways to support ALSM please contact Andrea Schurr, Director for Mission Advancement at 696.4500.
