The Oaks at Pleasant Gap lies in the heart of Nittany Valley behind the Steeplechase housing development, adding extra security for residents. Residents of The Village Cottages, The Court Apartments and Schreffler Manor share breathtaking views of Mount Nittany and the tranquility of meandering walking paths. With convenient access to major highways, Pleasant Gap is only minutes from the Victorian charm of historic Bellefonte and the culture and excitement of downtown State College, the home of Penn State University.
Independent Living at The Court Apartments and The Village Cottages
The Oaks at Pleasant Gap provides all of the perks and comforts of independent living — without the work or hassles. Our private residences offer a variety of spacious floor plans that allow seniors to select the homes that best suit their retirement lifestyles. Our community provides plenty of amenities, activities and conveniences in a friendly neighborhood setting. This setting enables residents to make new friends or reconnect with friends from long ago. Independent seniors also love living here because they know their futures are secure. Our residents receive priority admission to other campus accommodations, should the need arise. Outpatient therapy services are available through The Oaks at Pleasant Gap. Services offered include outpatient physical, occupational and speech therapy to aid residents in maintaining their independence.
The Village Cottages
New cottage construction is now underway at The Oaks. The Village is comprised of spacious, single home and duplex cottages with square feet ranging from 1,173 square feet to 1,850 square feet and include the following amenities:

- Fully equipped kitchen with stove, refrigerator and dishwasher
- Optional meal plan
- Washer and dryer
- Two full baths, with tub or shower units

Small pets are welcome! Maintenance fee, taxes, activities and scheduled transportation are included in rent, but residents are responsible for all utilities.
The Court Apartments
The Court one-bedroom apartments are up to 935 square feet of living space and are handicap-accessible. They include:
- Weekly housekeeping
- One reserved parking space
- Optional den and second bathroom
- Fully equipped kitchens including stove, refrigerator, dishwasher and garbage disposal
- Stacked washer and dryer
- Baths with seated showers and safety features
- Ample closet and storage space
- Intercom system to allow visitors access to the secure community
- Comfortable gathering areas, including library with fireplace and lounge
- 20 noon meals per month served in the dining room overlooking the fish pond and surrounding garden (additional meal plan available)
- All utilities including electricity, basic cable, local telephone services and wireless internet
- Patios and decks
- Mailboxes in lobby
- Option to rent storage space
- Individually controlled heating and air conditioning

Personal Care at Schreffler Manor
Personal care at Schreffler Manor at The Oaks offers the perfect balance of choices and assistance for those who want to maintain independence but need a bit of help in their daily lives. The Oaks at Pleasant Gap provides seniors with the comfort, safety, security and companionship that many seek as they age. Schreffler Manor at The Oaks at Pleasant Gap is licensed by the Department of Human Services to provide personal care services. Respite care is offered (based on availability) for up to 30 days to provide families with a break from caregiving responsibilities.
Personal Care Services and Amenities
Personal care services include an individualized care plan coordinated with caregivers and a physician, with staff available 24 hours a day. Services include:
- Assistance with personal routines such as grooming, dressing, medication and dietary management
- Access to on-site medical services, including podiatry services, weekly clinical lab services, mobile diagnostic services and primary care physicians available through contracted provider
Amenities
Personal care amenities include:
- Private and semi-private rooms (handicap-accessible rooms and suites are available)
- Fire-protection system, bathroom safety features, call buttons in bathrooms and bedrooms for 24-hour call assistance
- Individually controlled heating and cooling thermostats

Residents in personal care are offered priority admission to skilled nursing at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg. Furnishings in each Schreffler Manor personal care room offer such features as a living room/bedroom combination, entrance hall, large closet and private bath with shower. Rooms are furnished, but residents are invited to bring their own belongings to personalize their rooms. Enrichment programs are an important part of daily life for personal care residents at The Oaks. A variety of opportunities are provided each day, such as exercise classes, Bible study group, reading program, hand chime choir, shopping trips, church services and many other opportunities for interaction and socializing. Schreffler Manor’s beautifully appointed common areas include a library with fireplace, dining and living rooms with cathedral ceilings and skylights, and an activity room with complete kitchen. The Oaks is nestled below scenic Mount Nittany. There are a variety of places from which our residents enjoy the outdoor beauty that surrounds us — from a porch with ample seating to our large garden featuring a koi pond to the lovely walking paths where residents can spend some quiet time alone or with friends.
